The film also comments heavily on the paranoia of computer science entering every corner of society in the early 90s. Today, the film remains one of the most beloved science-fiction blockbusters in history. Even the VHS tape was the fifth highest-grossing home release ever. The film would go on to break the all-time box office record and, adjusted for inflation, earned $1.04 billion in the box office.
